WITL Blair Athol 2010 - 12 Years Old

Blair Athol is not a well-known distillery. The majority of its production ends up in Bell’s blended scotch. Fortunately, some of this nutty and malty spirit goes to independent bottlers where it can show its elegant character. 

This single malt has been aged in a 2nd fill Sherry Hogshead for 12 years. No finish, a really unusual WITL bottling. The result is a well-balanced Blair Athol with very present but well-controlled sherry notes. No astringent tannins or sulphur at all. On the nose we immediately sense sweet Christmas spices and raisins. On the palate, it reveals warm spices, candied apple and orange peel, notes of dark chocolate and a very light dry woodiness in the finish. 

The famous Highland cow is on the label with a bell hanging from its neck. Blair Athol Distillery is located on the Highland and its single malt goes into a blended scotch called Bell’s.
